Cao Temple Festival The relic complex worships 5 saints of the Vuong family who helped King Le Dai Hanh fight against foreign invaders and protect national independence in the 10th century. Cao Temple Festival in Hai Duong pays tribute to the 5 saints of the Vuong family who fought against foreign invaders The festival takes place from the 22nd - 24th of the first lunar month every year and is considered one of the typical traditional festivals of Hai Duong province; affirming the nation's tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", contributing to preserving and promoting the unique cultural values ​​of the Cao Temple National Monument complex. The festival includes traditional rituals such as: toothpick sharpening ceremony, holy shirt sewing ceremony, moc duc ceremony, walking procession ceremony and 13 weeks of worshiping saints, returning bronze offerings, ground-pounding offerings, bird's nest offerings... and an incense offering ceremony commemorating the death anniversary of the five saints of the Vuong family. Along with that, there are many cultural activities, sports, and folk games imbued with local identity such as: Giay cake pounding contest, braised sweet soup cooking, traditional wrestling prizes, cultural and sports exchanges. Legend has it that during the Dinh dynasty, in Thach Tuyen site, Nga Son district, Nga Trung district, Lo Thanh Hoa, there was a family of Mr. Vuong Tinh and Mrs. Dao Thanh who were virtuous people, but they were old and had no children. They then looked for a new place to live. When they arrived at Duoc Dau Trang, Bang Chau land, Nam Sach district, Hai Duong town (now An Lac ward, Chi Linh city, Hai Duong province) they decided to stay and settle down. Shortly after, his family gave birth to five children. In the year Thien Phuc 981, during the Early Le Dynasty, the Song army invaded our country. When the king marched to fight the enemy and set up a camp here, seeing the 5 Vuong cousins ​​with unusual appearances, the king immediately captured them and promoted them. The five Vuong brothers tried their best to help the king defeat the enemy. After the five Vuong brothers passed away, to remember their merits, the king ordained the five brothers as five generals and titled them "Higher Merit Gods" and ordered the people to build a temple where the saints were worshiped, worshiped with incense and fire. Over a long period of time, the temples are still protected and preserved intact by generations of people here such as: 11 ordinations, jade genealogy, horizontal scrolls, parallel sentences, great characters... Every year on January 22 - 24, the people here organize a traditional festival to remember the merits of the five generals and the people of Dai Co Viet against foreign invaders; At the same time, educate patriotic traditions for generations.
